20% of energy costs in commercial buildings are consumed by the lighting system. First witching the bulbs to LED creates significant savings. LED bulbs are more efficient than both incandescent and florescent bulbs. Additionally, LED bulbs do not require a ballast transformer which can be bypassed for further energy savings. The lighting system can also be connected to the Building Automation System for further savings. The BAS can schedule the lighting usage for when and how much is needed. One way the BAS can reduce lighting waste is by using a photovoltaic cell to determine the amount of light that is entering the space from natural sources, the BAS can then reduce the amount of artificial lighting in the space to meet the lighting requirements. The BAS can also set a lighting schedule to turn off lights for rooms when they are not in use.
